3 workplace trends we’ll see in 2018

1. Employee burnout causes more turnover

Full-time employees are working an average of 47 hours per week and the tenure has decreased from 4.6 in 2016 to 4.2 in 2017. Over a third of workers get an after-hours email from management and almost 10% get emails on vacations.  A study by Forbes found that almost 50% of HR leaders say employee burnout is responsible for up to half of their annual workforce turnover.

In order to prevent employee burnout, organisations should introduce ways of working that enables employees to take control of their working hours. By utilising cloud-hosted technology, workers have the ability to access their entire workstation at any time of the day, allowing complete flexibility and improving work-life balance.

2.Work-life balance is now crucial

84% of employees have experienced physical, psychological or behavioural symptoms of poor mental health. Symptoms like depression can result in about five missed work days and 11.5 days of reduced productivity every three months. Employees need the ability to break away from their work and take time to recharge, relax and re-engage. By offering employees flexible work strategies that empower them to take control of their working hours and make the separation between work life and personal life can improve productivity by 20% with 87% of professionals thinking that a flexible job would lower their stress levels and 98% saying flexibility would have a positive impact on their overall quality of life.

3. Security is the foundation

Last year, there were more cyber attacks than any other in history. Attacks such as the WannaCry ransomware, the CIA Vault 7 hack, and the Equifax data breach are reminders that cyberattacks are on the rise. As cyber attacks and fraudsters become more advanced, organisations need to become more resilient. By implementing cloud-hosted technologies, businesses can make use of a fully managed cloud service that enables businesses to focus on the task in front of them whilst meeting compliance regulations, like the upcoming changes to GDPR and monitors activity around the clock. All app, data, email and backups are taken care of by the managed service provider.

2018 is the year of streamlining business processes and strategies to meet the demands of the new worker whilst being fully protected against the threats of the constantly evolving technology scene.
