As the end of support for Windows 10 approaches on 14th October 2025, businesses must consider upgrading to Windows 11 soon to ensure continued security and efficiency. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide software updates, technical assistance or security fixes for Windows 10 – making the operating system a hacker’s dream.
While Windows 10 devices will continue to work after this date, they will not be considered secure. Therefore, Atlas Cloud will no longer be able to support devices running this operating system after the deadline.
To avoid this outcome, all Windows 10 devices must be upgraded to Windows 11 before the deadline. Microsoft offers Windows 11 upgrades for free, assuming devices meet the minimum requirements (outlined below). We recommend upgrades begin well in advance of the deadline to ensure time for implementation, testing and user acceptance.
The Benefits of Windows 11
Historically, Microsoft haven’t always got desktop operating systems right. However, Windows 11 is generally well received by end users and admins alike. Some of the advantages an upgrade can bring to your organisation are:
- Enhanced performance and efficiency – Windows 11 is designed to be faster and more efficient, offering improvements in system performance and battery life. That means increased productivity and reduced downtime, making it a valuable upgrade for businesses.
- Modern and intuitive interface – the new interface in Windows 11 is clean and user-friendly, based on modern user experience design that most users are already accustomed to. This modern design simplifies navigation and enhances user experience, helping employees work more efficiently.
- Improved multitasking – one of the big new features in Windows 11 is the Snap Layouts and Snap Groups, which help users organise open windows and apps more effectively. This boosts productivity by allowing employees to manage multiple tasks seamlessly, especially when using ultrawide screens.
- Integrated Microsoft teams – with built-in Microsoft Teams integration accessible directly from the taskbar, Windows 11 makes it easier for employees to stay connected with colleagues, clients, and partners, fostering collaboration and communication.
- Seamless integration with devices – Windows 11’s Phone Link feature allows employees to connect their Android or iPhone to their PC, managing notifications, messages and calls directly from their computer. This integration can improve workflow and communication.
Upgrading to Windows 11
If your device has a 64-bit processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage; it should meet the requirements for a free upgrade.
Anyone can check if their device is compatible, just follow the steps below:
Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, select Check for updates
Steps to check if your device can be upgraded
If your device is eligible, you’ll see the option to download and install Windows 11. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process there and then.
However, if your device is three years or older, we suggest a hardware refresh for optimal performance. It’s also worth checking whether your Windows licences are “Home” or “Pro”, as only the latter has security features deemed essential in the corporate world (like device data encryption).
